Campaign Photography: The Ten Commandments by Bocotton Stormfield.
| 1. THOU SHALT ALWAYS hire an outstanding Commercial Agency or production company to create your photography. This agency or production company should have monster chops, an impressive commercial book and a wall full of awards. They’ll produce outstanding photographs to help you look powerful, bold and maybe even lovable.
2. THOU SHALT NEVER hire political operatives or “campaign specialists” to create your photography.
3. THOU SHALT NEVER hire friends or associates of political operatives or “campaign specialists” to create your photography.
4. THOU SHALT ALWAYS be spontaneous and natural. Reality is in! Be believable. Be yourself.
5. THOU SHALT NEVER grin like a Cheshire cat into a camera. PHONY BALONY! DON’T DO IT! Fake smiles into the camera are for mugshots only (think Delay, Limbaugh.)
6. THOU SHALT NEVER listen to your pollster for advice on your wardrobe.
7. THOU SHALT ALWAYS keep your coat on if you’re wearing a tie. The rolled-up-sleeves-coat-hanging-over-the-shoulder look is complete PHONY BALONY.
8. THOU SHALT ALWAYS pay all of your campaign managers, strategists, speechwriters and pollsters with FEES-- NOT COMMISSIONS AND MARKUPS!!
9. THOU SHALT NEVER pay media commissions or mark-ups on photography to political consultants. 10. THOU SHALT ALWAYS take a Documentary photographer with you on the campaign trail whenever possible. Your producers and editors will have a wealth of great material to show people the real you, interacting with real people in real places. |
